Ship's felt commonly known as Irish flax felt or Irish felt, is a product originally made in Belfast in Ireland. It is made of long natural fibers and is saturated with bitumen. Because of the long fibers, ship felt has excellent tensile strength and conforms to uneven or odd shapes.
In traditional shipbuilding, the felt is used as an intermediate layer in wood/wood or wood/steel connections, for example between two plank layers or under metal sheathing.
Available loose in sections per meter or as a roll.
