DAMPFEISBRECHER STETTIN / Westphalen
The steam icebreaker STETTIN turned 75 in 2008.
Today STETTIN is a popular museum ship along the German coast;
formerly she was the flagship of the Stettiner icebreaker
fleet.
For the first two thirds of the ship's long life, she was a
classic icebreaker.
For a long time, STETTIN was the largest civil icebreaker under
the German flag. With her withdrawl from that work in 1981, she
became part of a newly established foundation and was saved in
an as yet unequaled rescue - a cultural and technical memorial
that not only kept her from being scrapped, but also set her
underway again as a useful museum ship.
In addition to the
history of the STETTIN, German icebreakers are described and
documented in this lavishly configured book.
