Ratchet block ELVSTRÖM / ANDERSEN

The rachet block, sometimes also called "winch block", can be found as main sheet block on racing and touring dinghys, like for instance the Pirat, Korsar, the OK-Dinghy since the 60ies and has today become a mainstay with the Optimist dinghy.
With the help of the built in rachet the load of the main sheet is taken up and the hand is accordingly relieved.
In light winds the sheave can be set free.
As the "ganddaddy" of the modern rachet blocks, this block by ELVSTRÖM is an inexpensive alternative.
