GREENLINE Recycled rPET Rope
We must stop the flood of plastic in the oceans!
TOPLICHT is making its small contribution by having PET beverage bottles recycled into rope. With GREENLINE rPET we offer the first rope made of 100% rPET fibers (rPet = recycled polyethylene terephthalate).
In order to protect the planet, it is urgently necessary to avoid waste, to collect and recycle high quality recyclable materials. Because the current statistics are alarming. Not only are far more resources being consumed than our earth can provide on a permanent basis, but around ten million tons of plastic waste also end up in the sea every year, where they have catastrophic consequences for the ecosystem.
TOPLICHT contracts a yarn manufacturer and a rope factory in the Netherlands to produce cordage from recycled PET bottles. The yarn manufacturer is certified according to the Global Recycled Standards (GRS) 4.0 and guarantees that its material consists of 100% recycled polyester. The PET plastic bottles used come exclusively from Europe to avoid unnecessarily long transport routes.
From about 40 beverage bottles, the single-variety PET for one kilogram of high-quality recycled polyester fibers is obtained. For this purpose, the collected bottles are shredded into granules and melted down. The fibers are twisted into yarns, from which the cordage is finally braided. Its breaking load, UV resistance, durability and elongation are of the same quality as conventional polyester cordage.
Our GREENLINE rPET cordage is well suited for sheets, halyards and stretchers. The double braid is smooth and lean, has very little stretch and good abrasion and winch resistance.
The recycled cordage is available in black (BLACK) or in a classic, hemp-colored look (CLASSIC).
Both variants not only look super and modern with the fine green tracer threads, but also point to the ecological ulterior motive in its use.
