This fascinating book describes the history of the popular Nordic Folkboat.
Developed in Scandinavia in the 1930s, the boat became famous for its minimalist design, robustness and seaworthiness.
Dieter Loibner takes us through the history of the folkboat community right up to the present day. He tells us about those who compete in regattas around the world, as well as the long-time fans who simply want to go on tour with friends and family and those who have prevented the boat, with its characteristic wooden clinker hull, from ever being significantly altered in its construction details.
Precise descriptions and the excellent selection of designs and photos make for enjoyable reading.
The foreword was written by Tania Aebi. At the age of 18, she set off on a single-handed circumnavigation of the world, which she was the first American to achieve. From 1985 to 1987, she travelled on her VARUNA - a Contessa 26 and thus a kindred spirit of the Nordic Folkboat.
In English language.
236 pages, numerous b/w photos and plans, format 17.6 x 25.4 cm, paperback.
